All this stuff was taken well over 4 or 5 years ago. I recently came across a photo album that had all these favorites stored. I thought it only right to give some of the real gems a place to shine. So it was a matter of scanning them into the digital age, and giving them a rightful place in my new digital photo album. It was amazing being able to strengthen them even more with my only recently acquired Photoshop prowess. But the power of the photos are there despite any amount of tweak or fiddle. I've been lucky enough to walk the streets of Stonetown, Vietnam , and French countryside.
So this is me celebrating this fortune in the only way I know, pretty pictures.

As the plane taxied into JFK, I could feel my heart start to beat.

I hadn't seen this girl in two years, and she was going to be waiting for me at arrivals. Apart from the wonder that is Facebook, and packages in the mail, I had not spoken to her since the week we spent together while she was in South Africa.

After literally two seconds, none of this mattered. We hugged and couldn't help but smile, as we took a good look at each other.

I made the right decision to come here.

This graduation present to myself came after three years of having the honour of meeting the most amazing groups of people. All of which came to Wits over the years, on exchange programs through New York University. This trip was my chance to make the relationship truly an exchange, by now having them show me around their world.

Throughout the two and half weeks there, I was constantly time traveling, back and forward throughout my varsity years. Some nights I felt two years younger as I hung out with friends from that time in my life. We had pizza, beers, and a fireplace to keep us warm.

With every friend I saw, the time passed didn't matter, it was irrelevant for this moment. We promptly picked up from where we left off, and proceeded to make some new memories.

These people were, and Im now proud to say always will be such a big part of my life.

I anyone of you guys are reading this.....

I could not thank you enough.

"Did you understand any of that" I said, as we hesitantly walked off the train.

After staring at the subway map, we soon realised we both needed to get to the same stop in Brooklyn. The lack of trains at both this time of year, and time of night, made it quite a challenge. We teamed up.

"Im completely at your mercy.....I could work it out, but seeing as you need to get home too, im gonna let you work this one out".

We hopped on another train. 10 minutes later the adventure took us above ground, after another subway line was closed. We got given bus tickets that would take us to another station. waiting for the bus, eventually I say...

"Im russell by the way", I hold out my hand.

Hallie was currently working for UNICEF. She had just spend the last few years working in Japan. When coming back to her home country, she hit New York first, and decided to stay there.

During an adventure that seemed like multiple trains and a bus, I talked about my trip, we talked about South Africa, and she talked about how when she was young, she believed that using her hands positioned over her eyes to look like binoculars, would actually make her see things better.

After traveling for what could have been as long as an hour together, we said our goodbyes at the Bedford station in Brooklyn. We went our separate ways, with our warm beds not too far away.

After dumplings in Chinatown, the beautiful Lizzy took me to the Natural History Museum. Taking up a whole city block, the building is an institution in New York. The combination of overwhelmingly large whales and planets, the old school spelling "Kuu Doo" in the animals of Africa section, having seen The Squid and the Whale, and having read Catcher in the Rye for the first time this year, I found myself having only love and adoration for this place.

I took a trip with my family earlier this year to the wonderful island of Bandos in the Maldives.

This beautiful island also just happened to be the home base for the crew of this year's South African Sports Illustrated Swimwear edition. Noticing this, I smiled and hung back to watch. Mad interested in the the production of it, maybe even more than the models, i spoke to the right people, and soon had myself helping out that afternoon. On the last day, i was asked nicely not to release these pictures until the edition hit shelves. Now that it is, i finally release my cool story to the world. So go out and pick up a copy, everyone involved was so rad including the models. While the beautiful Lee Anne Liedenberg was getting the picture taken that would end up being a cover, I was camera right, watching on with a stupid 13 year old boy's smile on my face.

Hi there.
from here until the very start of this blog, are my adventures of the Finnish leg of the 2008 North South Exchange. The trip is what inspired the very existence of the blog. I loved this blog so much, I just kept at it. An experience, no matter how big or small, didn't feel like it actually happened until I had posted it on the blog! A modern day photo album, updated daily, it was a great way to inform loved ones back home that i was still alive, as well as make some jealous, when the Foo Fighters, Incubus and Broken Social Scene pics went up.
